Full-time study at Â鶹ÊÓƵ requires enrollment in at least 12 credits during both the Spring and Fall semesters. The Summer semester is optional and is considered as a scheduled break.

Getting a permit can take several months, so be sure to begin the process as soon as you can.

Who needs to apply?

You will need to apply for a study permit if:

• You are not a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada.
• Your Â鶹ÊÓƵ program of studies is more than six months long.

When to apply

You must be admitted to Â鶹ÊÓƵ and have received your Letter of Acceptance (LOA) and the Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL) from Â鶹ÊÓƵ before you can apply for a study permit.

Once you have accepted your Â鶹ÊÓƵ offer and have paid your deposit, you will receive the LOA and PAL and can then start the process of .

We strongly recommend applying for your study permit or study permit extension as early as possible, as processing times can exceed 8 months.

How to apply

Study permits are issued by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), the government department that handles immigration.

As an international student, you’ll either need to extend your existing study permit from inside of Canada, or apply for a new study permit.
