The Motherload Collective is excited to announce its inaugural group exhibition, Kairos: Mothering Time.

In response to a world governed by chronological time, this exhibition considers the strange nature of time as experienced by caregivers and mothers. The works in the show feature explorations of intergenerational temporality, lost time, timelessness and maialogical time–a unique perception of time that relates to the dyadic relationship held within the postpartum experience.

The Motherload Collective emerged in the summer of 2023, created by Anna Heywood-Jones and Jessie McNeil, in an effort to build community and respond to the particular experiences and challenges of being an artist/parent. Motherload currently consists of over twenty artists, and the children we care for range in age from infants to pre-teens. Our practices vary widely, some centering around themes of motherhood, birth and care-work, and some not. However, we all share the desire for connection with other artist-caregivers and to normalize the presence of artist/parents and children in the art world.
